October is National Audiology Awareness Month. Established by the American Academy of Audiology in 2008, it provides an opportunity to raise public awareness of audiology and the importance of wearing hearing protection to prevent noise-induced hearing loss.[1]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n Hearing loss is a global epidemic that affects an estimated 48 million Americans.[2]<\/sup><\/a> The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that 900 million people around the world\u2014about 10 percent of the population\u2014will experience disabling hearing loss by the year 2050.[3]<\/sup><\/a> Increased awareness is key to finding solutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
