Willamette ENT and Facial Plastic Surgery is now accepting referrals for EarWell® infant ear systems, a new non-surgical system that helps reshape malformations in a child’s ear. The procedure is pain-free and does not affect a child’s ability to hear.

Invented by Dr. Steve Byrd, EarWell® ear molding devices help correct malformations in ear cartilage. Byrd and his colleagues believed that there had to be an easier way to treat ear deformities, which can lead to many children experiencing anxiety due to teasing or low self-esteem. Ear deformities are common amongst infants and will likely not result on their own. The EarWell® procedure has a 90% success rate so long as treatment starts early enough.

How EarWell® Works

Many common ear deformities are found within two weeks of birth, which is when a child’s ear cartilage is still moldable due to the amount of maternal estrogen in the baby’s system. Once doctors identify any issues, the EarWell® system can reshape an infant’s ear to a more correct position over time.

What results are naturally-shaped ears by the time the child is 2 months old. EarWell® may even prevent the need for otoplasty in the future.

Does Your Patient Need Treatment?

At least 33% of Infants are born with misshapen ears. If you encounter an infant patient who has a peculiar ear shape, you can then make a proper referral if additional intervention is needed. For more examples of correctable ear malformations, please download our informational packet. Molding must start as soon as possible for the best result.
