There are many benefits to drinking green tea, including helping improve brain function, lowering risk of prostate cancer and promoting weight loss. One particular type, Benifukki tea, also known as Camellia sinensis, is a cultivated variety of Japanese green tea. It contains high amounts of methylated catechins and epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), which are both recognized for their anti-allergic protective effects. One study from 2013 even showed that this type of tea can reduce symptoms of allergic reaction to cedar pollen.

Stinging Nettle Tea

It’s essential to know what causes allergies in order to understand the benefits of stinging nettle tea. When your body encounters a normally-harmless substance it deems a threat, known as an allergen, it releases antibodies called Immunoglobulin E (IgE). This antibody tells the cells to release histamine, which causes increased mucus production and inflammation.

Tea that has been brewed with stinging nettle, also known as Urtica dioica, contains antihistamines, which reduces nasal inflammation and eases pollen allergy symptoms.

Butterbur Tea

Butterbur, also known as Petasites hybridus, is a plant found in marshy areas. It is used to treat many conditions, including seasonal allergies. Another study from 2013 found that butterbur is as effective as the over-the-counter antihistamine Allegra in providing allergy symptoms relief.

Other Ingredients

While not teas, there are other natural ingredients that can be brewed into teas to reduce allergy and sinusitis symptoms. A 2010 study found that ginger with the active ingredient [6]-gingerol and turmeric with the active ingredient curcumin can be effective. Tea from Minto Island Tea Company can be a great complement to other treatments when it comes to managing your allergies.
