The goal of Men’s Health Month, which occurs every June, is to increase awareness of preventable health conditions in men. Hearing loss is almost twice as prevalent in men than in women, making the need for regular hearing screening particularly valuable.
Why Hearing Loss Is Common in Males
Men are more likely to have hobbies where loud noise is common, such as riding motorcycles, attending rock concerts and hunting. They are also more likely to work in industries that may result in hearing loss, including construction, trucking and manufacturing.1
Additionally, type 2 diabetes is more common in men.2 Hearing loss is twice as prevalent in people who have diabetes than in people the same age who do not.3
Hearing Aids Can Help
Most people with hearing loss find hearing aids helpful in allowing them to remain connected to the sounds of their world. Hearing aids can help you communicate effectively across a variety of situations, strengthen relationship, improve job performance and may reduce cognitive decline.
Willamette ENT is dedicated to partnering with patients to protect their hearing and treat existing hearing loss. Everyone’s hearing needs and lifestyle are different, and we will work to customize care so it benefits your specific needs. Schedule an appointment with our team this June.
