Jillian Netland, PA-C, is proud to offer cosmetic procedures at Willamette ENT and is dedicated to helping patients look and feel their best. Jillian recently discussed her interest in cosmetic procedures and the benefits they offer patients.
What Got You Into Doing Cosmetics?
I look at faces all day long working in the ENT specialty, and I like the idea of being able to give people something that they WANT instead of something that they NEED. Working in medicine is rewarding but can sometimes be hard because you see people on their worst days as they fight acute or chronic illnesses. I wanted to give people something that makes them feel good and improves quality of life differently, by giving them something that improves self-esteem, boosts confidence and makes them see themselves in a brighter light.
How Long Have You Been Doing It?
Five years.
What Is Your Favorite Cosmetic Procedure to Perform?
Working with neurotoxins like Botox is my favorite because it gives people dramatic results and makes them much more confident with minimal risk. It is also essentially painless with no downtime.
What Are Some Common Misconceptions About Cosmetics That You’d Like to Debunk?
Many people think that neurotoxins, like Botox, can only be used to treat wrinkles, but they are being used more and more to prevent wrinkle formation in the first place. You can get Botox before concerns develop to avoid muscle overuse and the development of fine lines and wrinkles in the future. The earlier you start, the better the outcome!
Some worry that it freezes their faces, but in reality, it all depends on the dosing! You can relax wrinkles and still maintain facial expression.
Many people think that you have to inject foreign material into your body to get anti-aging results and facial rejuvenation; however, microneedling uses your body’s own mediators to enhance collagen and elastin production, resulting in younger and tighter-appearing skin with fewer fine lines, wrinkles and abnormal pigmentation.
People think cosmetic procedures are only for women, but men can benefit, too! For example, men use microneedling on the scalp to grow hair.
What Makes Willamette ENT Different from Other Cosmetic Offerings in Other Places?
As an ear, nose and throat provider, I look at people’s faces all day. I have specialized training in head and neck anatomy and perform in-depth head and neck exams on numerous patients daily. This gives me repeated exposure to different facial configurations, asymmetry and muscle movement, which are all important for precise, effective Botox placement and avoiding complications like drooping or asymmetry.
