Organized by the National Alliance on Mental Illness, the goal of Suicide Prevention Month is to raise awareness, spread hope and facilitate action. Though Willamette ENT primarily focuses on concerns related to the ears, nose and throat, we are dedicated to providing resources to those who express suicidal or self-harm ideation.
The following local organizations offer support for those who are experiencing thoughts of suicide.
- Northwest Human Services, Salem: “For over 50 years, Northwest Human Services has been helping people in Marion and Polk counties stay healthy and supported. We provide medical, dental, mental health and social services.”
- Marion County, Salem: “Our Mental Health Promotion and Suicide Prevention program uses the science of health promotion and disease prevention to support our communities to reduce stigma surrounding mental health and improve help-seeking behaviors. We collaborate with community-based organizations (CBOs), health care systems, neighborhood groups, schools, businesses and other organizations and individuals with an interest in mental health promotion and suicide prevention.”
- Oregon Lines for Life (based in Portland, but reachable anywhere): “Lines for Life is dedicated to preventing substance abuse and suicide and promoting mental wellness. Our work addresses a spectrum of needs that include intervention, prevention and advocacy.”
Suicidal ideation can affect anyone regardless of age, gender or background. It often signals significant emotional pain or underlying mental health concerns that should be addressed.
If patients express distress while at the clinic, our staff will connect them with resources to help. We care for our patients and are always here to provide support.
“Have always found the staff and doctors here to be helpful. This was my first visit with Dr. Prze after Dr. Allan retired, and he was very friendly, enthusiastic, and thorough. It was obvious he had read my chart carefully before my checkup.”
