Tis the season for holiday gatherings, which means many people are getting ready to travel to spend time with loved ones. Hearing loss patients can take the following steps to make sure they’re able to focus on special moments with family and friends instead of stressing over hearing technology.
Stay Powered On
Having your hearing aids run out of power may mean missing conversations with loved ones around the dinner table. You can prevent this by:
- Bringing enough batteries to last your whole trip
- Packing an adaptor if you’re traveling abroad and wear rechargeable hearing aids
Protect Your Devices
To make sure your hearing technology safely survives your holiday travels, be sure to pack their case, a cleaning kit, and a dehumidifier, if you’re visiting a location with high levels of humidity.
Wear Your Hearing Aids at the Airport
You might be concerned about wearing your hearing aids while going through TSA security, but metal detectors or x-ray equipment is not a risk to your technology. You can inform your TSA agent about your hearing aids if you’re concerned.
If you remove your hearing aids for the flight, it’s a good idea to put them in your carryon luggage in case your checked bag doesn’t make it to your location.
We Can Make Your Holiday Travel Easier
Prior to traveling, you may want to bring your hearing aids for a clean and check appointment. The team at Willamette ENT can double check that they are working properly so you can fully participate in every holiday conversation.
